This article will guide you through the process of preparing your ANAFI Work for your first flight using the application FreeFlight 6.

Preparing the drone and updating its firmware

You will need an internet connection to download the application to your smartphone. We advise that you complete the first step in the office, before going on site.

Equipment needed:

  • Your ANAFI Work drone
  • 1 fully-charged battery
  • Your Parrot Skycontroller 3, fully charged
  • 1 smartphone
  • 1 USB-A cable compatible with your smartphone (charging cable)

Install FreeFlight 6 onto your smartphone

  1. Find FreeFlight 6 on Google Play or the Apple App Store, depending on whether you are using an Android or iOS smartphone.
Download the app, install it and give it all the permissions it asks for.

  2. It's time to start up the various components:

    • Unfold the ANAFI Work's arms, place it on a flat surface and turn it on by pressing its power button (on the battery).

    • Unfold the Parrot Skycontroller 3's central arm to switch it on.

    • Using its charging cable, connect your smartphone to the Parrot Skycontroller 3's USB-A port. FreeFlight 6 will open automatically.

FOR ANDOID USERS: If you plan to use your ANAFI Work with Pix4Dcapture, do not select "Use by default for this USB accessory" when connecting the Parrot Skycontroller to your smartphone.

  3. Do not try to log on to the ANAFI network using Wi-Fi.

  4. FreeFlight 6 will offer you two updates: One for the Parrot Skycontroller 3 and another for ANAFI.

  5. First, accept the Parrot Skycontroller 3 update. The application performs the update and confirms that it has been completed.

  6. Second, accept the ANAFI update. The application performs the update in the same way and confirms that it has been completed.

The updates must be installed in the correct order for your drone to work properly. This is why we urge you to update the Parrot Skycontroller 3 first and the ANAFI second.

When this procedure has been completed, your ANAFI is ready to fly:

    • with the Parrot Skycontroller 3 only,

    • with your smartphone only,

    • by linking the Parrot Skycontroller 3 and your smartphone.

Prepare your flight

Before going on site to fly the drone, you can also check that:

  • You have sufficient storage space

Recording pictures and especially 4K video will quickly fill up your ANAFI's micro SD card. Make sure you take enough micro SD cards with enough free storage space for your mission, or that you have a way of transferring the data from the micro SD card to another device (eg, laptop, HD or SDD). Keep the micro USB adapter with the drone, you might need it to transfer the data to another device.

  • You have downloaded a background map

Background maps are essential for preparing a flight plan and they improve operator awareness of the actual position of the drone during the flight.

Background map display uses your smartphone's internet connection. If you wish to reduce data usage or you are not sure of the level of cell coverage at your mission location, you can download the map in advance to use it in the field where an internet connection is unavailable.

    To load a background map:

In the welcome menu, select Load map:

Search for the location of your flight and tap on PREPARE THE MAP:

You can also select the Map type you prefer: ROADMAP, SATELLITE or HYBRID

  • Safety parameters

When planning your flights, it is important to make sure that the safety parameters are appropriate for the type of flight and with respect to the regulations in place at the flight location.

You can find all the safety parameters in FreeFlight 6 in PREFERENCES - Safety:

Be particularly careful when setting the Minimum altitude when using RTH (Return To Home).
